Description
This fellowship opportunity through the NRC Research Associateship Programs at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) supports postdoctoral researchers working on mathematical modeling, analysis, and uncertainty quantification. The research aims to enhance the interpretation of measurements by linking mathematical models with uncertainty estimates in metrology contexts. The program integrates physics with applied analysis, probability theory, asymptotics, optimization, and numerical methods to identify and quantify variability induced by instruments and inherent measurement uncertainty.
Research projects often involve collaboration with experimentalists and stakeholders to develop new measurement tools and improve existing ones. Recent focus areas include the design and operation of microfluidic devices for cytometry and flow metrology, as well as optimizing and interpreting diagnostic tests for diseases such as COVID-19.
Key research themes include:
- Mathematical modeling and applied analysis
- Microfluidics and flow metrology
- Uncertainty quantification in measurements
- Biophysics and physics applications in metrology
