Description
This NIH Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) provides salary and research support for early-career investigators focused on HIV/AIDS translational studies using nonhuman primate (NHP) models. The program aims to develop a new generation of independent researchers skilled in preclinical NHP research and its translation to human clinical applications. Awardees receive three years of intensive mentored career development, with guidance from a team of experienced mentors in both NHP research and clinical translation.
The initiative addresses priorities in the NIH Strategic Plan for HIV and HIV-Related Research, including reducing HIV incidence, developing next-generation therapies, advancing HIV cure research, and addressing comorbidities and complications. The program is specifically for candidates not leading independent clinical trials, though mentored experience in a clinical trial is permitted.
