The National Academies and Chinese Academy of Sciences convened a series of three public workshops to promote scientific cooperation between China and the United States on sustainability issues. The first workshop on sustainability and biodiversity was held in July 2022, and the second workshop on planetary health and sustainability took place in June 2023. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine are private, nonprofit institutions that provide independent, objective advice to inform policy with evidence, spark progress and innovation, and confront challenging issues for the benefit of society. They are comprised of three academies: the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Medicine. This series includes public workshops held in Irvine, California, and virtually. Workshops aim to identify priority areas for scientific collaboration to promote sustainability and planetary health in China and the United States.
