The National Academies will host a workshop examining the nation's public health response plans, systems, and structures during the COVID-19 epidemic. A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize and convene a day and half public virtual workshop to explore the nation's Public Health Emergency (PHE) preparedness enterprise through the lens of the COVID-19 response in the United States. They produce peer-reviewed reports, publish scientific journals, and serve as a trusted source of expert advice for policymaking. The National Academies mobilize approximately 6,000 top experts each year who volunteer their time and knowledge to conduct policy studies, workshops, and other activities aimed at addressing critical issues facing the nation and world.

Additional informationThe workshop will explore key components, success stories, and failure points throughout the entire PHE preparedness and response enterprise to identify opportunities for more effective planning at various levels.
