--- ## Description This opportunity supports the establishment of Developmental Centers for AIDS Research (D-CFARs) to provide administrative and shared research support, core facilities, and resources to enhance HIV/AIDS research at eligible institutions. The D-CFAR program is designed to help institutions build the infrastructure and collaborative environment necessary to become competitive for a standard Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) award. D-CFARs are expected to add value beyond existing HIV/AIDS research funding, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and support early-career and new investigators in the field. --- ## Due Dates - **Letter of Intent (optional):** 30 days prior to application due date - **Application Deadline:** August 4, 2025 (AIDS application) - **Earliest Start Date:** March 2026 All applications are due by 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization. --- ## Funding Amount - **Award Amount:** Up to $1,000,000 total costs per center per year - **Project Period:** Up to 5 years - **Number of Awards:** Contingent on NIH appropriations and the number of meritorious applications Budget increases above $1M in any year after the first require prior NIH approval. --- ## Eligibility - **Eligible Applicants:** - Public/State controlled and private institutions of higher education - Nonprofits (with or without 501(c)(3) status), excluding institutions of higher education - For-profit organizations (including small businesses) - State, county, city, township, and special district governments - Independent school districts - Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities - Federally recognized and other Native American tribal governments/organizations - U.S. territories and possessions - Others as specified in the FOA - **Key Restrictions:** - **Only one D-CFAR or CFAR award per institution** (including multi-institutional applications) - **Minimum NIH HIV/AIDS Funded Research Base:** $10 million total costs annually (see FOA for calculation details) - **Foreign institutions and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply**; however, foreign components as defined by NIH policy are allowed - **Clinical trials are not allowed** under this FOA - **Other Requirements:** - All applicant organizations must complete required registrations (SAM, eRA Commons, Grants.gov, etc.) before submission - Only one application per institution (as defined by UEI or NIH IPF number) is allowed --- ## Application Process - **Application Mechanism:** P30 Center Core Grant (multi-component application) - **Submission:** Electronic submission via Grants.gov using ASSIST or institutional system-to-system solution - **Required Components:** - Overall component - Administrative Core - Developmental Core - Advanced Technology Core(s) - Clinical Science Core(s) - Scientific Working Group(s) - Optional: Additional Core(s) - **Key Attachments:** - NIH HIV/AIDS Funded Research Base (FRB) spreadsheet (contact NIAID to request) - Letters of institutional support - Data Management and Sharing Plan (required) - Organizational charts - Core utilization tables - **Page Limits:** See FOA for detailed limits (e.g., 30 pages for Overall, 12 pages for each Core, 6 pages for each Scientific Working Group) - **Review Criteria:** Significance, investigator(s), innovation, approach, environment, and added value to the institution’s HIV/AIDS research efforts - **Key Policies:** Applications must follow the [NIH Multi-Project (M) Application Guide](https://grants.nih.gov/grants/how-to-apply-application-guide/forms-h/multi-project-forms-h.pdf) and all FOA-specific instructions. --- ## Additional Information - **Purpose:** D-CFARs are intended to strengthen institutional HIV/AIDS research capacity, foster interdisciplinary and translational research, and support the development of early-career investigators. - **Core Requirements:** Each D-CFAR must include an Administrative Core, Developmental Core, Advanced Technology Core(s), Clinical Science Core(s), and at least one Scientific Working Group. - **Developmental Core:** Provides short-term funding and mentoring for early-career and new HIV/AIDS investigators;
