Description
This award honors members of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) who have demonstrated outstanding service in mentoring and/or recruiting individuals from groups underrepresented in the field of mass spectrometry. The goal is to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) within the STEM community, specifically in mass spectrometry, by recognizing those who have made a significant impact through mentorship, recruitment, and leadership in DEIA initiatives.

- Up to two awards are given annually
- Each recipient receives $1,000 and a plaque
- Awards are funded by VRS Recruitment
Eligibility
- Must be a member of ASMS for at least 2 years
- Must have attended at least 2 of the past 5 ASMS annual conferences
- Open to all career sectors and stages, including:
- Students (undergraduate, graduate)
- Postdoctoral fellows
- Early career and established professionals
- Applicants must provide evidence of mentoring and/or recruiting individuals from underrepresented groups in STEM, with demonstrated impact at any age, career stage, or level
Application Process
- Applications are submitted via the ASMS Awards Platform
- Required materials:
- DEIA Mentoring Philosophy and Impact Statement (1 page, PDF): Describe your history of promoting equity and inclusion, recruiting/mentoring underrepresented individuals, creating DEIA policies/practices, and/or leading DEIA research
- List of mentored individuals from underrepresented groups (include degree and year; PDF)
- Curriculum Vitae (PDF)
- Two support letters (PDFs or via upload link; at least one from a current or former mentee)
- Register for an account on the awards platform to begin the application
- Applications are auto-saved and can be edited until submission
Additional Information
- Up to two recipients are selected each year
- Awardees are recognized at the ASMS Annual Conference
- Past recipients include individuals from academia and research institutions who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to DEIA in mass spectrometry
