    Description

This fellowship opportunity at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) supports research investigating physical and biological processes in surfzone and riverine environments. The research leverages small- and large-scale field experiments, employing innovative instrumentation such as GPS-equipped drifters and autonomous unmanned vehicles to collect new observations. Key research areas include:

    • Rip current dynamics with implications for public safety
    • Cross-shore exchange processes between the surfzone and inner-shelf
    • Data assimilation integrating autonomous vehicle data with numerical models
    • Littoral optical properties
    • Coherent structures in littoral environments

The program emphasizes Lagrangian particle statistics and pollutant mixing in coastal and riverine zones. Researchers will utilize both previous and new field data to advance understanding in these areas.
