    Description

    This program provides cost-sharing grants to designated state agencies to construct, renovate, operate, and maintain pumpout stations and waste reception facilities for recreational boaters. The aim is to reduce sewage discharge into public waterways, protecting aquatic ecosystems and enhancing recreational boating experiences. Funding is authorized by the Clean Vessel Act of 1992 and the Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration Act, with support from the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund.

    Eligible activities include:

    • Building, renovating, operating, and maintaining pumpout and dump stations (including floating restrooms).
    • Education and outreach to inform boaters about sewage disposal and facility locations.
    • State-level administration and coordination of the CVA program.

    Ineligible activities include law enforcement, upland restroom construction, and municipal sewage treatment plant construction.
