The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) offers seed grants to support novel, ambitious, and speculative research projects that advance human-centered uses of AI and data science. The program encourages proposals from a wide range of disciplines—including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, biomedicine, and engineering—and is especially interested in projects that foster multidisciplinary collaboration. Priority is given to research aligning with HAI’s core principles: understanding intelligence, augmenting human capabilities, and exploring AI’s societal impacts. Proposals should demonstrate innovation, intellectual merit, and a clear potential to catalyze further research support, while integrating ethical and societal considerations.
