The California Sea Grant State Fellowship is a prestigious, one-year professional development program designed for recent graduate students interested in California's coastal and marine resources and related policy. Modeled after the Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship, the program places fellows with municipal, state, or federal agencies, as well as research and conservation organizations engaged in coastal or marine research, policy, or management. Fellows gain practical experience in resource policy planning and implementation, while host organizations benefit from the fellows’ expertise and fresh perspectives. The fellowship aims to cultivate the next generation of ocean and coastal leaders and strengthen the capacity of management agencies. Optional extension projects are available for further professional growth.
