The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) invites applications for a postdoctoral associate position in physical oceanography aimed at enhancing understanding of Arctic Ocean dynamics. The research focuses on improving the Navy’s coupled ice-ocean-atmosphere model prediction systems by developing innovative techniques for assimilating satellite-derived sea ice thickness data into the Community Ice Code (CICE6). The successful candidate will collaborate with NRL researchers to study key Arctic processes such as wave-ice interactions, landfast ice, melt ponds, and their effects on Arctic thermodynamics.
The position involves working with state-of-the-art regional and global coupled deterministic and ensemble-based modeling systems, including CICE, HYCOM, and WaveWatch III.
