This program funds comprehensive recovery and reentry support services for individuals with serious mental illness or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders who are incarcerated in Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) facilities and scheduled for parole. Services are delivered by Certified Recovery Support Specialists (CRSS) or Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS) with lived experience. The initiative includes pre-release planning, mentoring, assistance with SNAP/Medicaid applications, a warm hand-off to community-based care, and robust post-release supports such as life skills, employment, housing, and digital skills training. The overarching goal is to reduce recidivism and facilitate a smooth, sustainable transition from incarceration to community living.
