Description
This fellowship opportunity supports research focused on developing new computational methods for simulating unsteady fluid flow around complex geometries. Research areas include:
- Development of structured and unstructured grid generation techniques.
- Unsteady flow solution algorithms optimized for vector, parallel, and GPU computing architectures.
- Investigation of unsteady incompressible and compressible flows around fully appended submarines, ships, and missiles.
- Analysis of pressures and motion histories of objects subjected to shock waves.
- Study of low-Reynolds number unsteady incompressible flows in biomimetic systems inspired by insect flight and fish fin dynamics.
- Efficient computation of flows in micro- and nanosensors and fuel cells.
The research is conducted at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC, within the Laboratory for Computational Physics & Fluid Dynamics.
