The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine is conducting a study of freight trains longer than 7,500 feet using an ad hoc study committee of experts. The period of performance is from September 2022 to June 2024. The committee will examine factors associated with the operation of these trains, including train dynamics and handling, braking, distributive power, communications and training.
