This fellowship opportunity supports research at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) focused on solution-processed semiconductors with the goal of developing inexpensive, high-performance optoelectronic materials. The research targets two main classes of materials:
The research involves synthesis of these materials using air-free solution techniques, followed by detailed characterization through electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and visible/infrared spectroscopy. A special emphasis is placed on micro-spectroscopy to study regions of reduced disorder, enabling evaluation of material heterogeneity and its impact on optoelectronic properties.
The ultimate goal is to use experimental data to build predictive models describing these materials' properties and to design and realize novel optoelectronic devices that can be integrated into existing platforms or flexible, lightweight structures.
