This fellowship opportunity supports research at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) focused on the design and synthesis of Extended Solids tailored for specific applications aligned with the U.S. Navy's mission. Extended Solids are materials composed of interconnected elementary motifs, ranging from elemental forms like diamond and graphite to complex structures such as zeolites and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).
The research emphasis is on developing new synthetic approaches targeting carbon, nitrogen, and/or boron-rich systems. These systems arise from novel transformations involving “building block” species, aiming to produce innovative materials with exceptional properties and practical utility.
Awardees will conduct self-directed research under the mentorship of NRL scientists, contributing to advanced materials science with potential impact on naval technologies.
