This fellowship opportunity, offered through the NRC Research Associateship Programs at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), focuses on advanced multimodal imaging research using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a primary or complementary technique. The program encourages projects that combine MRI with other imaging modalities such as computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and ultrasound (US) to develop quantitative imaging protocols for biomedical applications.
In addition to multimodal imaging, the program supports innovative MRI methodologies that challenge current standards, including dynamic nuclear polarization techniques to enhance signal detection for tracking metabolite conversion in vivo, as well as research into low-field and ultra-low field MRI and spectroscopy as alternatives to conventional high-field MRI.
NIST provides access to a variable field preclinical MRI scanner and clinical scanners in the Boulder and Denver areas. Fellows will collaborate with academic institutions, professional societies (e.g., ISMRM, RSNA), and potentially other federal agencies to develop calibration standards and quantitative imaging protocols.
