Description
This opportunity funds veterinary diagnostic laboratories in the FDA's Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network (Vet-LIRN) for capacity-building projects and equipment. The program aims to enhance laboratory capabilities for animal food safety, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), surveillance, and One Health initiatives. Projects may include method development, equipment acquisition, short-term monitoring, and activities supporting antimicrobial stewardship or emerging disease response.
The program is designed to:
- Support the development, adaptation, or validation of new methods related to animal food issues or AMR.
- Fund short-term surveillance or monitoring aligned with the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) mission.
- Provide equipment for testing or developing tests for animal food-related issues or AMR, including emerging technologies.
- Develop projects related to antimicrobial stewardship and One Health, including emerging diseases (e.g., COVID-19).
- Contribute to Vet-LIRN’s AMR monitoring program, including sequencing isolates.
- Support emergency surge capacity during large-scale animal food/feed events.
