Key Information: Clinical trials are not allowed; projects must be age, grade, and culturally appropriate; strong emphasis on interactivity and real-time assessment features.
This funding opportunity from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supports eligible U.S. small business concerns (SBCs) in developing innovative interactive digital media (IDM) products focused on biomedical science education for pre-college students and their teachers. IDM includes digital products that respond to user actions with content such as text, images, animations, audio, video, and games, widely used in STEM education.
The goal is to create engaging, interactive learning tools that not only disseminate biomedical science knowledge but also stimulate student interest, enhance problem-solving skills, and develop quantitative and computational abilities. Products may be designed for use inside or outside the classroom, for individual or group learning, and with or without teacher supervision. Features enabling real-time student assessment are strongly encouraged.
Each product must be appropriate for the target audience’s age, grade, and cultural background and be accessible on platforms suitable for the learners. The funding supports Phase I (feasibility and proof of concept) and Phase II (development and commercialization) projects but does not allow clinical trials.
