Rydberg atoms offer a means for measuring electric and magnetic fields ranging from DC to THz that are traceable to the international standards system. Rydberg atom-based sensors are versatile and utilized for phase- and amplitude-modulated communication protocols, synthetic apertures, and radar. We have determined that Rydberg atoms may offer an edge when applied to characterize the next generation of chips.
