--- ## Description This program supports research at the intersection of fundamental plasma science and engineering and societal or technological needs. The ECosystem for Leading Innovation in Plasma Science and Engineering (ECLIPSE) meta-program is designed to foster a multidisciplinary, inclusive community of scientists and engineers across multiple NSF Directorates. ECLIPSE emphasizes translational research—bridging basic plasma science with real-world applications—and aims to unify support for projects that may not fit neatly within a single NSF division. Topical areas of interest include, but are not limited to: - Plasma surface interactions (e.g., advanced manufacturing, materials processing, catalysis) - Atmospheric pressure plasmas and microplasmas (e.g., microelectronics, plasma agriculture, environmental remediation, decarbonized energy) - Dusty plasmas (e.g., nanomaterials, aerosols, surface coatings) - Novel plasma diagnostics and sensors (e.g., cubesat-based geospace measurements, industrial diagnostics) - Computational modeling for multi-component/multi-phase plasmas (e.g., space weather, plasma reactor design) - Plasmons in nano-photonics and nano-optics (e.g., sub-THz wireless communication, photocatalysis) - Chemical measurement science in plasmas (e.g., environmental analysis, forensic identification) - Fundamental plasma chemistry (e.g., novel chemical synthesis) The program encourages proposals that address diversity, equity, and workforce development in STEM, especially those involving HBCUs, MSIs, EPSCoR-eligible institutions, and collaborations among these groups. Proposals must (1) clearly articulate a fundamental scientific or engineering challenge in plasma science relevant to more than one NSF program, and (2) discuss how resolving this challenge addresses specific societal or technological needs. --- ## Due Dates - August 12, 2025 (main proposal deadline for most divisions and tracks) Other related programs or tracks (e.g., HBCU-EiR, HBCU-UP, CREST, E-RISE) may have additional or earlier deadlines.
