Description
This funding opportunity supports projects that advance the recovery of the Gulf of Maine Distinct Population Segment of Atlantic salmon. The program prioritizes habitat restoration actions identified in the 2019 Recovery Plan and the "Species in the Spotlight Priority Actions: 2021-2025" plan for Atlantic salmon. Highest priority is given to projects that:
- Remove barriers to fish passage (e.g., dam removals)
- Improve connectivity between the Gulf of Maine and freshwater spawning/rearing habitats within designated Critical Habitat
- Use proven, sustainable restoration techniques
Eligible activities include feasibility studies, planning and assessments, engineering design and permitting, on-the-ground implementation, pre- and post-removal monitoring, and stakeholder engagement. Projects may be funded through multi-year cooperative agreements, with NOAA providing substantial technical involvement.
