    Description

This fellowship opportunity, offered through the NRC Research Associateship Programs at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), supports postdoctoral researchers in developing advanced object-oriented computational tools for analyzing materials with complex microstructures. The research involves starting from digitized micrographs to identify features, assign material properties, generate finite element meshes, and perform virtual measurements. The ultimate goal is to create a modular computational platform capable of predicting the macroscopic behavior of materials based on their microscopic geometry, incorporating diverse physical phenomena and allowing easy integration of new physics.

The research areas include image analysis, materials science, physics, and computer science, with a focus on finite element modeling and computational methods for microstructure analysis.

More information about the computational platform can be found at http://www.ctcms.nist.gov/oof/.
