Description
This opportunity provides mentored career development support for investigators with advanced quantitative backgrounds (e.g., mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, physics, chemistry, informatics, economics) who wish to integrate their expertise into NIH-relevant biomedical, behavioral, or bioengineering research. The program is designed for those whose prior research has not primarily focused on health or disease and aims to expand the pool of quantitative researchers in the biomedical sciences.
The award offers "protected time" for up to five years of supervised study and research, including coursework, seminars, and mentored research, to facilitate the transition toward independent research careers in NIH mission areas. Applicants may not propose to lead an independent clinical trial but may gain experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor.
