Key Information: Only one proposal per eligible institution per cycle; eligibility limited to doctoral-granting, emerging research institutions in EPSCoR jurisdictions.
Description
This program supports the creation and advancement of Centers of Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST) in jurisdictions eligible under the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). The goal is to strengthen research competitiveness in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through integrated research and education activities, broadening participation, and building sustainable research capacity at emerging research institutions.
Centers are expected to:
- Integrate research and education in high-priority STEM areas.
- Foster institutional transformation and workforce development.
- Engage diverse students and faculty from EPSCoR jurisdictions.
- Establish partnerships with other research centers, industry, K-12 schools, and informal science entities.
Both new (Phase I) and renewal (Phase II) centers are supported, as well as partnership supplements to build collaborations. Centers must demonstrate potential for national research competitiveness and sustainability beyond NSF funding.
