This opportunity, part of the NIH BRAIN Initiative, seeks to fund transformative, integrative research that advances the measurement and modeling of behavior at the organismal level in non-human animal models. The focus is on developing and validating minimally invasive, high-resolution, multidimensional behavioral measurement tools, synchronously capturing environmental data, and creating computational models that integrate behavioral, neural, and environmental data across multiple timescales. Projects must be designed to enable integration of synchronously recorded neural data and/or inform models of neurobehavioral function.
Clinical trials and research involving human subjects or human data as a significant component are not allowed under this NOFO. Applicants interested in mechanistic research in humans should apply to the companion NOFO RFA-DA-24-040.
A Plan for Enhancing Diverse Perspectives (PEDP) is required and will be evaluated during peer review. Applications lacking a PEDP will be withdrawn.
