Description
This opportunity supports early-career clinician-scientists through the NIH HEAL Initiative PainCare Clinician Training Program (PCTP) via the Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08). The program aims to build a cohort of well-trained, independent investigators focused on clinical pain management research. Awardees receive mentored support to establish their research programs in areas aligned with the NIH HEAL Initiative’s mission, specifically targeting basic experimental studies involving humans (BESH).
Research areas of interest include chronic, acute, and recurrent pain, transition from acute to chronic pain, biopsychosocial aspects of pain, pain biomarkers, non-opioid treatments, pain education, prevention, and implementation science. The program emphasizes rigorous, innovative research and requires recipients to participate in annual career development meetings and adhere to HEAL Initiative data sharing policies.
