Description
This opportunity, issued by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) at NIH, seeks cooperative agreement applications to accelerate gene discovery for psychiatric disorders in cohorts of non-European ancestry, with a particular focus on African ancestry populations. The goal is to advance understanding of the genetic architecture of mental illnesses across diverse global populations and to promote global mental health equity. This initiative is part of the Ending Disparities in Mental Health (EDIfy-MH) program and represents the second phase of the Ancestral Populations Network (APN-2).
Projects should use cutting-edge genome-wide approaches, incorporate robust clinical and phenotypic assessments, and foster broad data and biospecimen sharing. All applications must include both a career development component (with emphasis on early-career researchers, especially from low-resource settings) and a comprehensive local community engagement plan. Infrastructure development activities are encouraged, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, but are not required.
