Description
This funding opportunity from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Immunization Services Division (ISD) aims to strengthen the U.S. immunization infrastructure and response to vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD). It builds upon the ongoing Section 317 and Vaccines for Children (VFC) programs, which are central to maintaining high vaccination coverage and low incidence of VPD.
The VFC program specifically provides vaccines to children who might otherwise be unable to afford them, supporting health equity by ensuring fair access to recommended vaccinations. Section 317 funding supports prevention health services, including preserving immunization infrastructure, maintaining vaccine supply for uninsured adults, and responding to outbreaks.
The NOFO focuses on seven priority strategies:
- Strengthen Program Infrastructure and Management
- Increase Vaccine Access
- Improve Vaccination Equity
- Promote Vaccine Confidence and Demand
- Enhance Data and Evaluation
Applicants are required to apply to all three components of the NOFO:
- Component 1: Core – foundational immunization program activities
- Component 2: Rapid small-scale response – funded activities for VPD outbreaks or public health emergencies
- Component 3: Rapid large-scale response – approved but currently unfunded activities for large-scale emergencies
This cooperative agreement supports state and local health departments, including large city health agencies, U.S. territories, and Freely Associated States, to maintain and improve immunization services and outbreak response capabilities.
