The U.S. National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT) program funds projects that develop, implement, and test innovative and effective models for STEM graduate education. The program is designed to enhance the training of graduate students (master’s and doctoral) in research-based degree programs, focusing on high-priority interdisciplinary or convergent research areas of national importance. NRT emphasizes broad participation, workforce development, and institutional capacity building, and encourages partnerships with the private sector, government, NGOs, national labs, and academic collaborators. The program particularly welcomes proposals from minority-serving and emerging research institutions and those that strengthen linkages with other NSF diversity and workforce initiatives.
