Description
This opportunity provides planning grants to state Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) agencies to develop operational capabilities that promote continuity of care for individuals who are incarcerated and eligible for Medicaid or CHIP. The grants are intended to help states address operational barriers and improve systems to ensure that eligible individuals maintain or regain access to healthcare coverage and services upon release from incarceration. The funding also supports states in meeting new federal requirements under the Consolidated Appropriations Acts of 2023 and 2024, which expand Medicaid and CHIP coverage protections for incarcerated individuals, including juveniles and pregnant women.
Funds may be used for activities such as developing standardized processes for enrollment and coverage restoration, investing in information technology for data sharing, and establishing oversight mechanisms to ensure compliance with Medicaid and CHIP requirements.
