Description
The U.S. National Science Foundation's Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) program funds research and practice that explores and strengthens informal STEM learning experiences and environments. The program seeks to enhance lifelong STEM learning and engagement, particularly for individuals and communities historically underrepresented or underserved in STEM. AISL supports projects that foster public engagement with STEM, science communication, community science, intergenerational learning, and STEM media, among others.
AISL funds five main types of projects:
- Synthesis
- Conference
- Partnership Development and Planning
- Integrating Research and Practice
- Research in Support of Wide-reaching Public Engagement with STEM
Projects must advance understanding of informal STEM learning, broaden participation, and center engagement and belonging for diverse audiences. Formal education activities (e.g., K-12 or degree-granting programs) are not eligible.
