The Department of Army Energetics Basic Research Center (EBRC) Fiscal Year 2025 grant supports fundamental research in energetic materials (EM) critical to U.S. national security and Army modernization. Initiated by the Combat Capabilities Development Command/Army Research Laboratory/Army Research Office, the EBRC aims to increase the Army’s intellectual capital in EM and address future challenges in weapon system lethality, range, and form factor limitations.
The program fosters collaboration among universities, research institutions, companies, and individual scholars through multidisciplinary and cross-institutional projects focused on strategic topic areas defined by the Department of the Army. The research is intended to generate new knowledge that can lead to the development of advanced materials and technologies, such as additively manufactured high-strength steels with pre-formed fragmentation patterns and structural reactive materials, which will enhance lethal effects, increase range, reduce payload size, and enable integration of larger mission-critical systems.
This basic research supports the Army’s goal of battlefield dominance in Multi-Domain Operations by shortening time-to-target and delivering decisive weapons overmatch.
