Description
The Basic Instrumentation Grant (BIG) Program provides funds for eligible institutions to acquire a single, new, costly, specialized, and commercially available instrument or integrated instrumentation system dedicated to biomedical research. The program is designed for institutions that have not received substantial S10 instrumentation funding (totaling $500,001 or more) in the preceding three federal fiscal years. The primary aim is to enhance the research capabilities of NIH-supported investigators and to broaden access to modern technologies at academic and research institutions, especially those not major recipients of NIH research funding.
Supported instruments include, but are not limited to, cell sorters, confocal microscopes, ultramicrotomes, gel imagers, and dedicated computer systems for biomedical research. The grant is not intended for instructional equipment, clinical care instruments, or bundled/multiple instruments.
