Description
The Geosciences Open Science Ecosystem (GEO OSE) program aims to accelerate the adoption and impact of open science practices within the geosciences. The program supports a broad range of activities that foster community engagement, capacity-building, and the integration of open science principles—including FAIR, CARE, and TRUST—across geoscience domains. Projects may focus on building communities of practice, developing workflows that connect data, software, and physical collections, and implementing educational initiatives to broaden access to cyberinfrastructure and reduce barriers to participation.
The GEO OSE program offers two tracks:
- Track 1: Smaller-scale, community-organizing and planning activities, including education/training and mobilization campaigns to improve openness in geoscience research.
- Track 2: Larger-scale, transformative efforts designed to embed open science practices into daily research and education workflows across geoscience communities.
The program does not fund the development of new cyberinfrastructure or hardware, but encourages leveraging existing resources.
