Description
This NIH funding opportunity supports transformative and highly innovative research projects that address social determinants of health (SDOH) with the goal of preventing, reducing, or eliminating health disparities and advancing health equity. The initiative seeks applications that demonstrate a compelling potential for major impact on improving health outcomes across diverse populations by targeting the underlying social, economic, and environmental factors influencing health.
Projects should be grounded in strong scientific rationale and logic, aiming to accelerate progress toward NIH’s commitment to health equity. Importantly, preliminary data are not required, encouraging novel and high-risk approaches. The funding mechanism is a cooperative agreement (U01), allowing for substantial NIH involvement.
The initiative is open to a wide range of applicants including state, county, and city governments; tribal governments and organizations; public and private institutions of higher education; nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status; small businesses; and other organizations.
