Description
This program provides competitive grants to eligible State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) for the replacement or rehabilitation of highway bridges on public roads. Projects must bundle two or more similar bridge projects to demonstrate cost savings. The program aims to improve the condition of bridges in states with low population density and a high percentage of bridges in poor condition. Eligible projects must include the construction phase but may also cover environmental clearance, preliminary engineering, and/or final design.
The program emphasizes state of good repair, mobility, safety, innovation, climate and environmental impact, equity, and workforce development. Applications are evaluated based on merit criteria, project readiness, and alignment with key Department of Transportation priorities.
