    Description

This NIH opportunity funds collaborative research projects that utilize existing biosamples and/or data from type 1 diabetes (T1D) clinical studies or trials. The goal is to accelerate research into the etiology and pathogenesis of T1D, with a focus on understanding disease mechanisms that can inform improved prevention strategies. Projects should leverage well-characterized human samples and datasets from established T1D studies, such as DPT-1, TrialNet, or TEDDY, to address key questions about disease progression, biomarkers, environmental triggers, and mechanisms of protection or susceptibility.

Clinical trials are not permitted under this funding announcement. Instead, the focus is on secondary analyses, biomarker discovery, mechanistic studies, and hypothesis-driven research using existing human data and biospecimens.
