Description
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Office of Data and Evaluation offers the State and Impact of the Humanities program to fund research studies that explore the condition, impact, and value of the humanities in the United States. This program supports projects that use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed research designs and require the active involvement of humanities professionals.
The humanities are broadly defined to include activities that explore, interpret, and preserve the diversity of human cultures, ideas, practices, and experiences, both past and present. Funded projects may include a variety of outputs such as peer-reviewed research, data sets, reports, toolkits, conference presentations, and public-facing publications.
Eligible research activities include planning, data collection, analysis, communication, and dissemination. Importantly, the program does not fund data collection alone without accompanying analysis.
Project teams may consist of one or multiple researchers but must include at least one humanist. Research may draw on diverse data sources and humanistic approaches to better understand how and why the humanities matter in private, public, and scholarly life.
