Description
This program, administered by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in partnership with the Library of Congress, funds collaborative projects to digitize historically significant American newspapers published between 1690 and 1963. The digitized newspapers are made freely available via the Chronicling America platform, supporting preservation and broad public access to primary sources for research, teaching, and public engagement. Projects may involve the selection, digitization, and metadata creation for approximately 100,000 newspaper pages per award, following stringent technical and copyright guidelines. The program encourages collaborative, multi-institutional, and multi-state efforts, and supports both new and continuing participants, with special emphasis on underrepresented perspectives and coverage.
