--- ## Description The U.S. National Science Foundation's Fire Science Innovations through Research and Education (FIRE) program aims to catalyze transformative, convergent research and education activities addressing the growing complexity of wildland fire. The program encourages multidisciplinary and multisector teams—including academics, educators, scientists, community members, students, industry, practitioners, resource managers, and Tribal representatives—to generate new knowledge on the interactions among biological, social, geoscientific, and engineering processes related to wildland fire. FIRE supports proposals in three main focus areas: - **Next Generation Coupled Fire Models (FIRE-MODEL):** Development of innovative predictive models, experimental methods, and data integration to improve understanding of fire phenomena and reduce uncertainties. - **Enhancing Capacity for Fire Resilience in the Wildland-Urban Interface (FIRE-WUI):** Research on community adaptation, risk management, infrastructure vulnerability, public perceptions, and novel mitigation technologies at the intersection of wildland and built environments. - **Fire Science Innovations through Research and Education Networks (FIRE-NET):** Building collaborative teams and networks to synthesize knowledge, coordinate research, develop community standards, and advance workforce development in wildland fire science. Proposals should demonstrate strengths in areas such as data collection, modeling, cross-scale fire interactions, community engagement, and resilience strategies.
