--- ## Description The Fire Science Innovations through Research and Education (FIRE) program, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), seeks to catalyze convergent, multidisciplinary, and multisector research and education that will transform understanding and management of wildland fire. The program addresses the increasing complexity and urgency of wildland fire science by encouraging innovative approaches, robust collaborations, and new frameworks for research and education. FIRE proposals are expected to demonstrate strengths in one or more of the following: - Advances in data collection, storage, and sharing for wildland fire dynamics (including Earth observations). - New modeling and computational approaches (including AI/ML) to understand wildland fire. - Understanding cross-scale interactions of wildland fire (local, regional, global). - Insights into community adaptation and governance relevant to wildland fire. - Approaches to reduce vulnerability of infrastructure, natural fuels, and social systems. - Engagement with diverse stakeholders to promote forward-looking wildland fire science.
