--- ## Description The Fire Science Innovations through Research and Education (FIRE) program seeks to transform our understanding of wildland fire through innovative, multidisciplinary, and multisector research and education. Recognizing the increasing complexity and urgency of wildland fire issues, this NSF program supports convergent activities spanning science, engineering, and education. The initiative encourages collaborations among academics, educators, scientists, community members, students, industry partners, practitioners, resource managers, and Tribal representatives. Key focus areas include: - **Next Generation Coupled Fire Models (FIRE-MODEL):** Development of advanced predictive models and computational tools to better understand wildland fires and smoke dynamics across scales. - **Enhancing Capacity for Fire Resilience in the Wildland-Urban Interface (FIRE-WUI):** Research to improve risk management, adaptation, and resilience for communities at the intersection of built and wildland environments. - **Fire Science Innovations through Research and Education Networks (FIRE-NET):** Building collaborative teams and networks to address gaps, synthesize knowledge, and foster new research or educational directions.
