    Description

This fellowship opportunity at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) focuses on studying and quantifying air-sea interface processes that regulate the intensity and propagation of the Monsoon Oscillation in the Northern Indian Ocean, specifically in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. The research aims to:

    • Evaluate processes such as surface and entrainment fluxes, surface wave dynamics, and lateral heat advection that control upper-ocean heat content and sea-surface temperature (SST) across diurnal to intra-seasonal timescales.
    • Determine how north-south gradients in upper-ocean temperature and salinity influence the intensity of monsoon convection.
    • Understand and quantify the roles of equatorial remote forcing and local wind forcing on SST and the intensity and propagation of Monsoon Intraseasonal Oscillations.

This project is ideal for postdoctoral researchers interested in ocean sciences, atmospheric interactions, and climate dynamics related to the Indian Ocean monsoon system.
