    Description

This fellowship opportunity focuses on research into acoustic-gravity waves (AGWs) in the atmosphere, which include gravity waves and infrasound. These waves couple processes occurring in the ocean and solid Earth with those in the middle and upper atmosphere, playing a critical role in momentum transfer and providing insight into ionospheric effects caused by tsunamis, earthquakes, and other natural or anthropogenic events near the Earth's surface.

    Research areas include:

    • Understanding the ambient wave field in the atmosphere
    • Attribution of observed AGW signals to near-ground sources
    • Modeling the generation and propagation of AGWs in ocean and atmosphere
    • Modeling low-frequency ambient underwater sound
    • Acoustic noise interferometry for passive remote sensing of the environment

The fellowship is hosted at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, CA, under the guidance of adviser Oleg A. Godin.
