    Description

The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) offers a postdoctoral research opportunity through the NRC Research Associateship Programs focused on laser propagation and imaging in adverse conditions such as fog or smoke. The research is conducted within the Advanced Optics Concepts Section, which explores advanced imaging and laser propagation techniques including computational imaging, single pixel imaging, orbital angular momentum laser beams, vortex masking, and scattering mitigation in visually degraded environments.

Ideal candidates will have experience in:

    • Experimental and modeling work on laser beam propagation
    • Optical alignment of imaging systems
    • Characterization of detectors and sensors
    • Working in visible (Vis) and mid-infrared (mid-IR) spectral regions
    • Use of spatial light modulators and wavefront sensors (preferred)
    • Programming skills for data acquisition and analysis in Python, Matlab, or LabVIEW

The fellow is expected to independently conduct research, present findings, and prepare manuscripts for publication.
