    Description

This fellowship opportunity at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) focuses on fundamental problems in the physics of magnetic field dynamics within the heliosphere. Research areas include:

    • Emergence of magnetic flux from the solar convection zone into the corona and energization of coronal mass ejections (solar physics).
    • Magnetopause reconnection and magnetic instabilities (magnetospheric physics).
    • Acceleration of the slow solar wind, generation of magnetic fluctuations, and propagation of coronal mass ejections through the solar wind (solar wind physics).

The program emphasizes the use of time-dependent numerical simulations (1D, 2D, and 3D models) and comparison with satellite data across visible, ultraviolet, and X-ray spectra, as well as in-situ measurements. Awardees gain access to Department of Defense high-performance computing resources to support their research.
