Summary: Postdoctoral fellowship to develop and optimize novel synthesis methods and formulations for reactive metal nanopowders with applications in energy storage and related fields.
Key Information: Open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents; requires Ph.D. earned within last 5 years; relocation and health insurance benefits included.
This fellowship opportunity at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) supports postdoctoral researchers in developing novel synthetic methods and formulations for reactive metal nanopowders (RMNPs). The research focuses on producing RMNPs with varying compositions and unique properties such as air stability and high combustion energy content. Current methods include sonochemically mediated synthesis producing multi-gram quantities of RMNPs.
The project aims to optimize existing synthetic routes and develop new approaches for RMNP production, including the chemistry of processing, derivatizing, and incorporating these powders into useful formulations. Applications of interest include battery media, hydrogen storage materials, and other energy-related technologies.
Awardees will conduct research on-site at NRL in Washington, DC, under the mentorship of Dr. Albert Epshteyn.
