This fellowship opportunity at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) supports postdoctoral research focused on developing the data infrastructure necessary for the Materials Genome Initiative. The project aims to create extensible markup language (XML)-based data schemas for phase-based materials property data such as thermodynamic properties, diffusion properties, molar volume, and elastic properties. These schemas will facilitate the development of CALPHAD-based databases.
Additionally, the research will integrate these XML schemas with materials-based ontologies using metadata models like RDF triples to improve data searchability. To support data curation, the project includes developing application programming interfaces (APIs) for various experimental equipment, enabling efficient data dissemination and management.
This work is critical for advancing materials informatics tools that enable better curation, dissemination, and utilization of phase-based property data, thereby supporting computational thermodynamics and materials design efforts.
