    Description

This fellowship opportunity supports research on climate and ecosystem variability in eastern boundary current systems, focusing on the effects of climate change on marine resources. The project aims to distinguish local from global variability in oceanic and biological time series, identify regime changes, and assess socio-economic impacts of climate change. A key emphasis is on comparative studies across ecologically similar eastern boundary current systems to enhance analytical robustness.

The program encourages statistical and modeling approaches including nonstationary spectral estimation, change-point detection in time series, nonlinear and nongaussian state-space models, factor estimation in state-space models, and hidden Markov models. Awardees will have access to extensive worldwide surface and subsurface oceanographic data, as well as fisheries databases from various eastern boundary current regions.

The fellowship is hosted at the National Marine Fisheries Service, Southwest Fisheries Science Center in Monterey, CA, under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
