--- ## Description Project SEED is a summer internship program sponsored by the American Chemical Society, offering high school students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience in chemistry laboratories. Over 8 to 10 weeks, participants work under the guidance of professional scientist-mentors, engage in meaningful research projects, and receive support in college preparation and professional development. The program aims to broaden access to STEM careers and foster a deeper understanding of the chemical sciences among students who may otherwise lack such opportunities. --- ## Due Dates - April 2, 2026: Student application deadline (student applications close) Selections are typically announced in April and May, with the summer program running from June to August. --- ## Funding Amount - Each selected student receives a $4,000 stipend for participation in either the Summer I (first-time) or Summer II (returning) program. - The internship spans 8–10 weeks, with approximately 40 hours per week of research. - Additional opportunities may include travel grants for presenting research at ACS meetings and college scholarships for eligible participants. --- ## Eligibility Applicants must meet all of the following criteria: - Be a high school sophomore, junior, or senior (recent graduates may also be eligible). - Have completed at least one high school chemistry course. - Demonstrate an interest in science and/or chemistry. - Be from a family with annual income not exceeding 300% of the [Federal Poverty Guidelines](https://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty-guidelines) (documentation required, such as tax returns, eligibility for free/reduced lunch, SNAP/WIC participation, or TRIO program participation). - Be able to participate for the full duration of the summer program (minimum competing summer activities). - Obtain parent/guardian permission to apply and participate if under 18. Selection is competitive and based on academic performance, expressed interest in science, availability, and site capacity.
