Description

Eligibility
- Institutional requirements:
- U.S. institutions (states, districts, territories) granting bachelor’s or master’s degrees in the chemical sciences (including chemistry, biochemistry, materials chemistry, chemical engineering)
- Departments must not grant a doctoral degree
- Only one nomination per institution per year (renominations accepted)
- Nominee requirements:
- Full-time, tenure-line academic appointment in the chemical sciences
- After the fourth and not after the twelfth year of independent academic career at the time of nomination submission
- Engaged in independent research and teaching primarily with undergraduates
- Not actively participating in or substantially contributing to a Ph.D. program
- Special circumstances: Extensions to eligibility window considered for official tenure clock stops (e.g., parental, medical, military, or pandemic leave); contact the Foundation for guidance
Application Process
- Nomination: Must be submitted by an institutional representative (e.g., department chair or dean)
- Required materials (submitted as a single PDF to submissions@dreyfus.org):
- Online nomination form
- Letter of nomination (max 2 pages)
- Description of research accomplishments and future plans (max 6 pages, including references)
- Statement on educational efforts in chemical sciences (max 2 pages)
- CV (max 5 pages), with clear identification of corresponding author and student coauthors; include research support
- Letters of support:
- Three letters required, sent directly by recommenders to submissions@dreyfus.org
- At least one letter may be from the home institution; letters from former advisors or the home institution are not weighted as highly
- Letters from students are generally not impactful
- Additional materials: If significant career developments occur after the deadline, a one-paragraph appendix may be submitted within three weeks post-deadline

- Reporting: Final report due at the end of the five-year period; interim reports as requested
